My team of working blokes from the South East often travel to various places around the country. We often stay away and take our clubs with us. Would it be possible to list Municipal Courses as we do not carry all our posh gear around with us ( & they are usually cheaper too).
Thanks. PS A very interesting site and fairly helpful.

Mark.. Not sure if I can help with the Municipal request. Have you checked out the various discount deals which are getting more common? There is a link to these discount offers on every course page on the GolfGuide website.

Links golf? Maybe we could have a 'Links Golf' Map!

Niall Duffy, England 20/12/2002
Like the new map. As someone who's only recently taken up the game, its really useful to see the array of courses near where I now live. I'm aiming to explore them all!

Thanks Niall. Hope you like the new structure.

m. williams, uk 17/12/2002
great site but sadly no mention of the manor g.c.kingstone nr uttoxeter staffs

Utttoxeter is alive and well as is Manor Golf Club (Kingstone) now that the new site is live - maybe try a search for them.

Keith Gardner, england 12/12/2002
Sir, fantastic site, I'm looking to play Senior Amateur events next year would it be possible to place some 2003 open competitions your map. Thanks Keith Gardner.

I need to stop somewhere to 'let the paint dry' Keith. I agree however and now that I am getting my head round the software and how it handles the database, it may be possible.

mark dobson, england 05/12/2002
great sitecant wait for you to expand it

Mark - not sure if Debbie would agree with you as she is the one who has to do the time consuming fiddly stuff..

Len Bailey, England 05/12/2002
Great idea and an easy to use site, I look forward to the addition of the European maps.
I noticed the details for my own club are out of date so I will email new details to you soon.
Keep up the good work

Burnham-on-Crouch Golf Club

Len, thanks for the kind words. Judging by the gestation period of the UK maps, I would not hold your breath in anticipation of the addition of the rest of Europe!

Ewen Watt, scotland 05/12/2002
Map assistance is very good, but you have omitted Burntisland and Aberdour GCs in Fife, while recording Kinghorn and Kirkcaldy. We are located on A921 between Inverkeithing and Kirkcaldy, the order of town heading eastwards being Inverkeithinh,Dalgety Bay,Aberdour,Burntisland, Kinhgorn and Kirkcaldy. I see that space for titles is scarce!

Ewan - Burntisland and Aberdour are now 'on the map'.

John:
I believe Dornoch (Royal Dornoch) is missing on the map.

Cheers,
Jack

Thanks Jack - the new manifestation of the site has sorted that.

Chris Perrin, England 04/12/2002
Hi

Like your site very much.

Is it possible to get the golf map in one file please as my only alternative is to download every area and piece it together.

Thanx

Chris.....

Chris - there are now over 350 maps on the site. Apart from the fact that it would be a exceedingly large file, I suspect that Mr Gates and the men in suits may have an issue with copyright!

Barry Emery, England 01/12/2002
This website is getting better every time I visit it. Very handy for planning golf outings. Thanks.

Thanks Barry - hopefully the revised site allow you to find courses in an area more easily than the previous version.

Mary Jacobs, England 29/11/2002
The site is great, I found out a lot about whats available in my local area. Just a couple of things would help though. I clicked on Reading which brought up a list of clubs. I would have liked this list to stay up so that I could go straight back to it to look at another club instead of having to go back to the map again.

Also when I went to Hurst and then looked at clubs in the area, I found Billingbear which I was interested in but it wasn't on the original list for Reading so to see the information again I had to go back through the Hurst site. Could all clubs listed as 'near the clubs your looking at' also be on the original list for the area, I.e. Hurst and Billingbear both come up on the list of clubs in Readings area?

Very impressed with the site, good info, good idea to get players comments, great directions. Obviously a lot of work has gone in.

Based on the feedback (and unlike Gordon Brown) I have to admit that I got it wrong.. the presentation is not working too well.

It looks as tho the site will have to grow to several hundred pages in order to give every course its own blob! Still, there is enough encouragement in the feedback thus far to make the task worthwhile.

Ian Brodie, Longhirst Hall Golf Course, England 28/11/2002
Excellent idea, just as I am looking to arrange a golfing holiday, I can now see where the courses are relevant to a map. Noticed that some courses feature twice (postcodes I guess). Would suggest that when you hover over dot, the listing of the clubs is uniformed for better reading, i.e list format and not continuous on line. Would also suggest losing (place/town name where you have selected in pop up box) some people may think it is another course. I am sure that when they have selected a part of the map they know where they are!!! Keep up the good work.

OK! I admit it and will revisit the way in which the courses are presented.

John Harrell, USA 25/11/2002
Hey, there...I'm curious if you could direct me to the source for your UK geocodes. Are you able to tell me how much you paid for it? I'm searching for the same for use on my own application.

Thanks!

Try MS Mappoint2002 - less than 200.00 Pounds

Susan Swan, England 22/11/2002
Title page could be more exciting John! Just looked at one or two local entries - Stoke's webpage is www.stokebynaylandclub.co.uk, also scrolling special offer for the Colchester area was in Bournemouth - just a hop away! Lots of useful info - good luck with the launch, Rob too busy reducing his handicap to comment at present

Home Page? Agreed.. Do you fancy designing one?

Will look into the 'special offer' problem and update Stoke's web address. Glad Bob has got his priorities right!

Leon Lumsden, Scotland 20/11/2002
Could Elgin Golf Club please get a listing on the map?

Leon - this had me baffled till I spotted that Hopeman GC had 'Elgin' as its postal town. The software promptly placed Elgin GC under the Hopeman blob! Will move Hopeman GC back up the road to its rightful place so that you each get a blob.

David Weston, England 20/11/2002
Map excellent
Enmore Golf Club

Nuff said.

Michael Wilson, England 18/11/2002
Could Ampleforth College Golf Club be listed separately from York as it is 20 miles away. Post code is YO62 4HP. You may have mistaken my post code(Hon.Sec.YO32 9PY), which is for correspondence with the course address.

Thank you - Michael Wilson - Hon Sec

Michael - the postcode is correct for the club but in the address, York is given as the postal town.

I will look at the implications of altering it so that you have your own blob.

Peter Howard, England 18/11/2002
Good additional feature.

One step further would be a "route planner", of the kind found in www.multimap.com

Needs further refinement for the group of courses in Birmingham.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind words Peter.

If you look at any of your courses on UK-GolfGuide, you will find a Route Planner link at the foot of all the pages. As far as 'further refinement', Debbie is preparing maps with greater detail which will allow users to 'drill down' to view areas where there are clusters of courses so I would assume that Birmingham will be included.

Peter Harper, Staffordshire Uk 18/11/2002
Ref Midlands / Birmingham Map showing Tamworth you have omitted the 2 Local courses

1 The Belfry Golf and Hotel
2 Drayton Park Golf Club just 3 miles from the Belfry a mature Parkland course.
A James Braid design course with recently re built USGA specification Greens

please add the little Flag just under the word Tamworth (South) on the left hand side of the M42.

Regards Peter Harper
Marketing Drayton Park Golf Club

Peter, the software uses 'geocodes' which are generated from the postcode to draw the map. The Belfry (ooops the De Vere Belfry) is positioned correctly and its postal town is Wishaw.

As far as Tamworth is concerned, the popup text indicates Tamworth GC and Drayton Park GC. The little flags are generated by considering the postal town for each course and grouping accordingly. The only way I can get the Belfry to appear in the Tamworth popup is to physically move the course up the road a few miles.

I am constrained by the software at present but there are better (and more expensive) solutions which will allow the flexibility you as for. When I have a spare £1000 quid I will go out and buy the right software!

Martyn G Senior, England 18/11/2002
The Southport "blob" does not include Formby, Formby Ladies or West Lancashire who are all part of probably the best group of golf courses in England.I can see that these clubs have Liverpool postcodes as opposed to our Preston PR postcodes, but we are not in Preston. all these clubs are part of "Englands Golfing Capital and as such should be grouped under Southport.
Please do your best.

Again, postcodes and geocodes rule!

It would be better if the map showed 'Formby' as opposed to 'Skelmersdale' to help users find these courses but judging from the choice of towns shown on maps, it seems that Mr Gates does not play golf and I cannot change them...

John Dalton, UK 18/11/2002
It woudl be appreciated if Welton Manor Golf Club could be added to the Lincoln list of clubs.
The club is situated 6 miles north East of Lincoln and is easily accessed from both the A15 and A46 trunk roads. The club is situated on Hackthorn Road, just away from the village centre.
Many Thanks

This is tricky one John as I have already had a set to with a large G&CC in the North of England who wanted to be 'attached' to a town some miles from their actual geographic location.

Whilst I can understand the marketing reasons, I will need to go with postal town and postcodes as far as the GolfMaps site is concerned. (The GolfGuide site is less constrained and uses radial distances in finding local clubs so you should be in the frame as far as Lincoln is concerned.)

Lucy Holmes, UK 17/11/2002
Dear Mr Tuach
What a smashing addition to your site! we are on the map , in the correct position, and even a novice like me can use it!! Thank you, Lucy

Thanks for that Lucy - praise is always welcome. Can I detect a hint of surprise in your comments?

Lee Boardman, England 16/11/2002
Looks good so far.
Will be faster than searching when looking for a course in specifc areas.
Keep up the good work

Lee, users have been asking for this facility for about 7 years and yes, it should be quicker to find courses now. Still a bit to do tho...
